If you ask most people why they’re hesitant to sell on Amazon, you’ll usually hear the same answer:
“What if Amazon copies my product?”
It’s a fair concern. After all, Amazon has access to more customer data than almost anyone. It knows what’s selling, what isn’t, and where demand is growing.
So here’s what we’ve always found interesting…
If data is the biggest advantage in retail, why isn’t Amazon Basics the number one brand in every category?
The answer is simple: people don’t buy on data alone.
Customers still buy from brands they recognise, trust and have confidence in. They buy from businesses that have built a reputation, not just a product.
That’s exactly why we don’t see Amazon Basics dominating every search result. It can compete on price, but it can’t instantly create the trust that great brands spend years building.
For us, that’s one of the biggest reasons brands shouldn’t be afraid of Amazon. The platform doesn’t stop good brands from succeeding; it gives them a chance to prove why they’re worth choosing.
Do you think data is becoming more valuable than brand, or has AI made trust even more important?
